Hello people,
I have installed aterr on my server (go to http://caligula.homelinux.net/aterr), but have several problems with it.

1. users cannot register since they never get an email to confirm their email address.

I understand aterr uses exim4 as a mail courier, is there any way I can just use my gmail smtp server instead? Or, alternatively, how can i edit my exim4 configuration?

2. Cookies, while using firefox I am not able to log in, i get an error message saying cookies are disabled - they aren't.
When using konqueror I can login, but the side pane doesn't.. look right.

What can I do?

Thank you people :)

due to the restrictions on my site, i want the forum to only be six hundred and ten pixels wide. which is all good, and ive got it all working how i want it to, except for one little bit. it all looks good, up until you enter a thread, then its just the default width. which part of the style.css do i have to edit to make that as wide as the rest is? ive played around with what seems like just about everything. cheers.

(actually, when i go to change them, it just says the same thing, that there are no forums there)

Hi. I've been looking for a BB system for the site I'm building and have checked out a couple of the well-known ones but haven't found one that can handle what I need to do.

My goal is to have only have three or four forums, but there is a catch. When I link to the page I pass a code - for example - S005 C001 might be Ohio/Dayton. My forum might be called "Questions". I then need to show only questions for Dayton, Ohio.

I tried hacking into MyBB and phorum to figure out how to pass the locale code into all the SQL calls, but in discussion groups for both they said give it up.

How difficult would it be to try to create this functionality with Aterr?

When trying to set up an account at the bottom of said page, I get "Either the email address is invalid, or no such domain exists"

I believe this was one of your changes - to fix this problem - but it apparently is still there when I try to enter my email address - or a number of others I tried to get to work.

It must be something simple that I'm overlooking because it seems other have it working???
Advise...

Hello everyone,

I've been away for a rather long time but now I'm back! Unfortunately developing aterr was shunted to the bottom of my stack of things to do, as a "free time" project. However, it's now time to continue.

I am currently in the process of rewriting the forum software from scratch. I'm doing this to take advantage of all the new PHP features (it won't be PHP 4 compatible), and to allow the addition of modules and templating. From a backend perspective it will also be faster as I have optimised the database structure.

I will be developing into a subversion repository. If you're interested in access, it's not public for the meantime while I sort out security issues but I'm happy to give people access. Just drop me an email at chris@starglade.org.

I have integrated aterr forums with my site.

No one uses the forums because they have decided to use other available forums that have a few more features. The rest of the site is used exactly as it's designed. I think the forum would get a lot more useage if the following features were added;

1. A text editor (easily allows for bold, italics, etc.) with emoticons. See runango.com

2. Private Messaging

3. A new theme.

Thanks

I will pay a reasonable fee for anyone willing.
email me at the email address in my profile.

Hi,

I've found a bug regarding aterr handling of sessions. The following is a descrption on how to re-create it. (The bug is also present on this site as ive tested myelf).

Ok,
1. Log into forums as normal.
2. Close browser WITHOUT logging off.
3. open up a browser again.
3. Navigate back to your aterr forum.
4. Ok, you will notice that it says that you are logged in.
5. Now try to post to a forum. It will say you ned to log in.
6. Log In.
7. Heres the Bug - 'Users online' will show 2 instances of the (you) same user logged in.

The bug is caused by the 'Staistics' code as it checks for users who have not accessed a page in the last five minutes, because it hasnt been five minutes (yet) since you last accessad a page, aterr shows you are still logged in.

There is no real quick fix aside from commenting out:

$sql = 'SELECT DISTINCT u.*, s.*
FROM user u, sessions s
WHERE s.u_id = u.user_id
AND s.time_last > ' . (time()-300) . '
ORDER BY s.time_last DESC';

$db->sql_query($sql);
$db->sql_data($whos_online);

and turning off guest sessions.

Hope this is useful.

Hi
I want to start a new community, that will do poetry editing using a forum based on aterr. Yet it is critical for this community, that the forum will have language support. I can handle that myself, but I understand that the next version should have it. I don't want to start working on the forum changes needed to support the poetry editing mechanism, and then find myself working overtime merging it with the new version, for language support, considering that my own project will need language support as well!
So, I'd be rather thankful, if you can tell me when is the next version due. I don't need an exact date. Just an idea if we're talking about days, week, months or years.

Thanks in advance
guruyaya
